Band Biography

Jamie Mellor -  At 18 years old, Jamie is the rhythm guitarist of the band. Influenced mainly by Arctic Monkeys, Nirvana, The Beatles and Jeff Lynne, Jamie contributes a catchy and bouncy sound to the band. Working with a Danelectro DC59™ guitar and an Orange Crush™ amplifier, Jamie always makes sure his lively guitar riffs are heard by everyone and also contributes where lyrics are concerned.

Fun Fact - Jamie affectionately calls his amp 'Shirley'.

 

Jack Crompton - At 17 years old, Jack is the bassist of the band. Influenced by Muse, Kasabian, Kings of Leon and The Killers, Jack's bass riff's are known for their funky flavour and often crunchy fuzz which make a very tasty bass line. Using a Fender Jazz Bass™ and a Laney RGB8™ combo bass amplifier, Jack doesn't have any trouble in making sure that his bass riffs reach the ears of every single audience member.

Fun Fact - Jack isn't funny.

 

Mike Smith - At 17 years old, Mike is the man at the front in charge of vocals and lead guitar. Mike's influences range from U2, Slash, Muse and Jimi Hendrix which are partly responsible for his blues, rock and alternative guitar parts. Mike employs a Vintage Les Paul™ guitar along with a VOX AC30™ (incorporating an array of effects along the way), and also uses a Sennheiser™ wireless setup. Mike's stage presence is widely acknowledged by all, and always leaves the crowd wanting more.

Fun Fact - Mike endeavours to conquer new impossible ways to extravagantly play his instrument.

 

Will Lloyd - Also at 17 years old, Will is the drummer of the band. Heavily influenced by Kings Of Leon, Foo Fighters, Kasabian and Arctic Monkeys, Will aspires to be a memorable drummer akin to Matt Helders and Taylor Hawkins. Will plays a black six-piece Gretsch™ Catalina Maple kit with Evans™ drum heads, featuring a dual rack tom and dual floor tom set up. Will also uses a Sabian™ performance cymbal pack, but is very fond of his 19" Paiste™ PST-5 Rock Crash Cymbal, which the band are not fond of. Will typically uses a pair of Promark™ 5B sticks, with Vater™ or Head™ stick grip tape.

Fun Fact - On average, Will snaps 2.83 (3sf) drum sticks per month.

Welcome to the home page of us, The Chevrons. We are a young, upcoming four-piece Rock band, based on the Wirral. Gigging in the North West, since our formation we have played with many other bands in venues such as the renowned Liverpool 02 Academy which has become like a second home to us since our debut show there on February 10th 2012.
 
Our debut show was a big day for all of us, given that it was the first time we played as a band in the eyes of the general public. Although we had played at a private function in December 2011, we were very much a bedroom rehearsal band, with no experience of performing together as a unit. However despite this, we did not fail to impress, as we were asked back by the event promotor, Jamie Otsa at Kong Live Events, to headline at the 02 Academy on the 7th April.
 
Between our first show and our first headline, the pressure was on to work hard and get back into practice straight from the off, to return to the 02 as an advanced and tighter band. Back in the practice room, we quickly set about writing new material of our own to present to our growing audience. However, as songs were written and parts were perfected, we were suddenly offered a slot at a charity event; 'Play For India 2' again at the Liverpool 02 Academy on the 31st March. With a large arsenal of  new tunes at our disposal, we gladly accepted the slot, and helped to raise money for a good cause whilst perfecting our own music and new chosen covers, hopefully gaining a few more fans in the process!
 
Another gig completed, we realised we had only one more week of solid rehersal to scrutinise every hammer-on and drum fill that would be on show at the 02 the following Saturday night. Needless to say, we were feeling excited and well prepared for the biggest show of our still young career, which we had plugged to everyone we could. The headline was undoubtedly the most energetic performance so far, with us feeling professional with our very own printed banner hanging behind us (big thanks to Geoff Lloyd at Swift Creative Print). Here we also photographed our performance with the help of our friend and unofficial photographer, Patrick Bell. Some non-professional filming was also recorded by a family member, which is still available on YouTube (The Chevrons, Liverpool).
 
And there we have it, our back story since our formation in 2011! However, since the conclusion of our summer exams, we have quickly been keen to get back to work, and have now successfully recorded our first ever EP with the help of our friend, sound engineer and producer Peter Gebbie, which features a number of tracks which we are sure will demonstrate the musical direction we are aiming to head for.
